  • Of Taxes and other stuff

On Friday, Jon was introduced to the world of income taxes.  He filed last year because of his income from his own business but this year I decided he needed to meet his tax man in person.  Last Saturday, we spent a good part of the day sorting and logging information.  I must say, the boy did a great job of keeping track of receipts, sending invoices, figuring mileage, etc.  His work was rewarded with a promised refund.  I haven't told him yet that he gets to help pay for the tax preparation services!

My taxes, on the other hand, will be a wash since my lovely Florida exemption is happily married.  The only time I remember a sizable refund was when we had enough to buy tickets to fly to Washington for Matt's wedding. Those days are over.

Rebecca and Harper Grace spent Monday to Thursday in Columbus.  I was nearly sick as they were finding their way here during that terrible snowstorm with white-out conditions.  When Bec left Lincoln, there was no snow but ran into it by David City.  Needless to say, I prayed like crazy and was extremely thankful for their arrival.  Although I was at work, we did enjoy our evenings together, watching 24 and American Idol, hanging out with the college girls biblestudy and just visiting.  Bec had a dr. appt. in Grand Island on Thursday and I traveled along just in case Harper would get fussy.  She was great for the trip!

I am enjoying being a grandma to Harper and a resource and hopefully an encouragement to Rebecca during these early days of parenting.  She is a wonderful mother and she has a God-given tenacity to stick with something even when their are some rough days.  God has given her several other young moms, too, which helps give a break and some perspective on those long days of being cooped up in the house.

Bethany received a Nebraska care package this week.  Adjusting to Florida life after being with family for almost three weeks begged the extra TLC from home.  She called this week with chicken noodle soup preparation questions and prices for airline tickets.  Between the national economy and my own, we will have to trust God for any trips to Florida in the near future.  The best time I can go is Spring Break time but the prices of tickets is over double.

Jon has a four-day school week this quarter.  He heads home on Thursday evening to work a full day at NPPD on Friday.  He loves his computer classes and is enduring the English comp class.  His work at the Sheldon station shifted from afternoons to mornings on Monday and Wednesday.  The boy is up at 5 a.m. to be at work by 7 a.m. - rather admirable for a college student.

I was thinking today that this is the first time in awhile that I do not have to plan either for a wedding or graduation!  Kind of nice.  But God keeps me challenged in other areas.  And I can't wait until the streets are rid of morning ice and I can walk outside.  My inside track at home is rather small and I think Jersey has forgotten what her leash looks like!

Best get ready for church.  I am taking a Sunday school classes on parenting!  I know I might be a little late for that but maybe it will help me be a better grammie!!

  • Good Times...

This has to have been the most unusual Christmas season ever on my books.  And I am thankful to say that little Harper Grace had a lot to do with it!  What a wonderful gift she has been already to our family!

This is not the most glorious picture of me but who cares.  Taylor and I were just all about that baby!  We are enjoying having every minute we can get with all of the kids.  Time together seems to be what everyone is craving, especially the Florida kids!

One more celebration with the Wolfe clan on Saturday.  It will be their first time in meeting Harper.  Fun!  Now if only I could remember what I am suppose to bring.......
